Description of Davis putter scholarship: This prize is for presently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students who are actively involved in social change efforts. Recent grantees have worked to combat racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of oppression, as well as to grow the economic justice movement and to promote peace via worldwide, anti-imperialist solidarity.

Eligibility for Davis-Putter Scholarship

The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund supports people who are involved in social and economic justice campaigns. Students who are able to conduct academic work at the college or university level or who are enrolled in a trade or technical school who are active in the progressive movement are eligible for these need-based scholarships.

Early awardees supported civil rights, fought McCarthyism, and advocated for peace in Vietnam. Recent grantees have worked to combat racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of oppression, as well as to grow the economic justice movement and to promote peace through worldwide anti-imperialist cooperation.

Applicants must have participated in activities in the United States, with a significant preference for those who want to work there.

The Davis-Putter Scholarships Fund offers a maximum payout of $15,000 per year (from July 1 through June 30). Grants are distributed for each semester, quarter, or term that the applicant is enrolled in school. Grants cannot be delayed or carried over and must be used in the year they are awarded.

Each year, recipients must reapply for assistance. No later than April 1st, applications must be submitted. Decisions will be sent to applicants in July.

The Davis-Putter Scholarships Funds assist people who are involved in social and economic justice campaigns. Applications that are incomplete or incorrectly prepared will be disqualified. Each year, following the application deadline, the information in the ‘FAQ’ section is removed.
